ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Elmira Police Department is investigating a stabbing that happened early Friday morning.

According to police, officers were dispatched for a disturbance involving one person who was stabbed in the area of Luce Street and Riverside Avenue. Officers found the victim with a single stab wound. The victim was taken to the hospital via ambulance to be treated. 

Police said the victim and the suspect were familiar with each other and the stabbing was not a random act.
