CHEMUNG COUNTY, N.Y. (WENY) -- Saturday Marked National Drug Take Back Day, and the Chemung County Sheriff's Office took part in collecting unused or unwanted prescription drugs.  According to Sheriff Schrom, the county collected 1,025lbs of unwanted prescription medication.

Collections were taken at the Southport Fire Department and the West Elmira Fire Department.  At the Southport Fire Department, they used a drive through method, and people could conveniently turn in their prescriptions, no questions asked.


To date, 22,090lbs of medications have been collected by Chemung County.  You can check your county's website to see if they have unused med dropbox sites year round as well.
