Fire Damages Two Homes in Corning
UPDATE 7:15 P.M. (10/24): According to Corning City Fire Chief Brad Davies, no one was hurt in the fire that spread to two homes in Corning.
The residents of one of the homes are now getting assistance through the Red Cross. The fire is under investigation.
CORNING, NY (WENY) -- What started as a fire in a carport spread to two homes on Corning's north side Thursday afternoon.
Fire crews were first called to a carport fire at 97 Gorton Street in the city of Corning a little before 3PM, for a carport fire in between two homes. Just moments later, the fire spread to the neighboring home, with both houses suffering significant damage.
Thick black smoke could be seen from miles away, with the wind carrying the smoke through downtown Corning.
WENY News is working to gather more information about the fire, and if anyone may have been hurt.
The fire was out by 3:45 P.M.
On scene was the city of Corning Fire Department, the Corning Joint Fire District, and Painted Post Fire Department.
