STEUBEN COUNTY, NY (WENY) -- The Steuben County Sheriff's Office arrested two men from Elmira, following an investigation into several burglaries across the Canisteo Valley area earlier this month. The Sheriff's Office says it has charged Trent Johnson, 20 of Elmira, and Zachary Smith, 36, of Elmira, with second and third degree Burglary, third degree Grand Larceny, and fourth degree Larceny, for burglaries in both the village of Canisteo and the town of Howard on October 12th.

Authorities accused the two men of stealing a shotgun, motorcycles, and electronic equipment from homes in the two communities. The Sheriff's Office says it worked with the Canisteo Police Department, Elmira Police Department, and Chemung County Sheriff's Office, executing a search warrant in Elmira on Wednesday, recovering a majority of the alleged stolen items.

Johnson and Smith taken into custody later that evening. Both men were arraigned in Centralized Arraignment Court and released.
