Upcoming Chemung Co. hazardous waste collection event
CHEMUNG COUNTY, N.Y. (WENY) -- Chemung County's hazardous waste collection event for the fall season is happening this upcoming weekend.
The event, happening Saturday, October 12th, is free for Chemung County residents. It's being hosted by Cornell Cooperative Extension Chemung County.
Items accepted include (but not limited to) ammonia, antifreeze, arts and crafts supplies, household batteries, bleach, brake fluid, cesspool cleaners, drain cleaners, driveway sealer, dry cleaning fluids, engine and radiator flushes and floor cleaners.
Also accepted: fluorescent lights, gasoline, herbicides, insect prays, mercury and items containing mercury, metal polishes, moth balls, muriatic acid, latex and oil-based paints, old chemistry set supplies, oven cleaners, paint thinners, pesticides, photo chemicals, pool chemicals, radiator cleaners, rodent killers, rust preventatives, sealants, solvents, transmission fluid, wood preservatives and wood strippers.
Electronics are not accepted.
The collection event is for Chemung County residents only, no businesses allowed. Pre-registration is required.
To pre-register, you can call Cornell Cooperative Extension at 607-734-4453 between 9 a.m. and noon, or from 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on weekdays. You can also visit chemung.cce.cornell.edu
Pre-registration must be completed by Wednesday, October 9th at 4 p.m.
