Catholic Charities to join national campaign for Domestic Violence Awareness Month
(WENY) -- Each year in October, advocates, survivors, and supporters recognize October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Catholic Charities of Chemung and Schuyler counties will be partnering up with the National Network to End Domestic Violence and the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence in their national campaign.
The goal of the campaign is to bring more awareness about domestic violence through community engagement.
Two local events will be held to remember those lost to domestic violence and recognize those who have survived.
On Oct. 10 in Schuyler County, members of the community will gather in LaFayette Park in Watkins Glen from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
In Chemung County, there will be an event held at Wisner Park in Elmira on Oct. 17 from 6 p.m. to 7 p-m.
Attendees are encouraged to wear purple.
If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, help is available by calling the National Domestic Violence Hotline at Thehotline.org or call 1-800-799-7233.
