CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) -- This weekend the annual Southeast Steuben County Library's Book Sale kicks off and there are thousands of books here from all different genres, all of which have been donated to the library from the community, and all the sales will benefit the library directly.

This year's sale is taking place at USW Local 1000 Union Hall THAT'S NEXT to the Civic Center, different from their normal spot at the East Corning Fire Department. The Friends of the Library says its one of the most important fundraisers of the year.

"This is our major fundraiser for the library. We hope to make 25,000 and all of the proceeds except for our expenses go directly to the library. They can generally be for their summer reading program, but they can use it for anything except operating expenses," said Nancy Doutt, one of the library's volunteers.

it's not just books either, audio books, CDs, DVDs, LPs, and puzzles will also be available for purchase during the sale. The huge amount of variety means that there's something for everyone.

"I think the first tiny sale was in 1958 on Market Street in Corning. And the dealers came before they really opened. They were cleaned out and people had to go back home and get more books. Every year with all of the donations, uh, it expands. People say, Oh, they had, they had records there. Maybe they'll take my old tapes," added Doutt.

The sale's first day is this Saturday the 21st, but it's open to just members of the library. After that, from the 22nd up to next Saturday the 28th. It's open for anyone to come in and grab a couple of books for a low price.

Prices will be going down as the week goes by and on Saturday the 28th you can fill up a grocery bag with books and items for just $5.
