WESTFIELD, Pa (WENY) -- FEMA has been on the ground in Westfield, Pennsylvania, helping with the recovery efforts following the flooding left behind by the remnants of Debby.  Inspectors are going door to door, wearing vests and badges.

FEMA inspectors record disaster-caused damage.  They do not request money to complete an inspection, and they do not promise that you will receive a grant.  Officials say there's an easy way to spot a FEMA Inspector in your neighborhood.

"A FEMA official will always, always have a badge," said Trey Paul, a representative from FEMA.

Paul said FEMA is there to help, and their goal is to make sure survivors feel comfortable and supported.

"Our FEMA crews are there to let survivors know that we are in the area and we are available to register them for assistance," said Paul.  "We are meeting those survivors where they are. It's one of four ways we're coming to them. We can have them come to one of our disaster recovery centers. They can always call our 1-800 number, or they can download the FEMA app or go to disasterassistance.gov."

To fill out the disaster relief form and get a claim started, you do need sensitive info like your social security number.  If you're uncomfortable giving out that information to an inspector, FEMA says disaster recovery centers will be be up in the future where you can sit face to face with a representative.

"We're excited for the help that the representatives from FEMA are doing out in our community, getting to know folks and helping them through the process," said Representative Clint Owlett.  "We're happy that they're going to receive something and be able to get back on their feet and put their lives back in order to the best of their ability. So we're excited about that. It's been a long time coming, a lot of hurting people, and we're trying and we're excited about this help."

The deadline to apply for disaster relief assistance is November 12th.
