CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) -- Disability, Dream, and Do Day, also known as "D3 Day," offers local kids with special needs the chance to play softball on a professional field. The special event brings professional players, and kids together for a fun Saturday of teamwork, skill-building, and rotating through drills and activities that make Softball more accessible to everyone.

The event was founded in honor of Dave Clark, a pitcher in professional sports history to pitched on crutches.

"Dave being a polio survivor, the only professional baseball player to ever play on crutches," explained Doug Cornfield, Director of D3 Day. "It's really one of the most remarkable I still call it the mostly the greatest, mostly unknown sports stories. It gives kids that chance of the opportunity to play on a normally professional field. But here locally, we do, the local fields and we bring the Corning Community College baseball players in to help, and actually the hockey players the Elmira hockey players are coming in too. "

D3 Day is all about breaking down barriers and proving that sports really does not have any limits.

"What we do is we don't have a lot of stand-around time at this camp with soft equipment. Balls are flying everywhere. We set up stations. So, just like a professional or collegiate practice, we set up stations. We have five stations. We typically do a throwing station, a target station, a hitting station, a pitching station, and the t-ball station and we rotate the participants around so they get a lot of activity," says Cornfield.

The event not only promotes inclusion but also fosters connections that inspire dreams on the field.  Saturday, Septmeber 7th's event will take place at the Cinderella Fields located at 12 Spruce Street, Corning, New York. D3 Day runs from 9:45 a.m. until lunch time.
