(WENY) -- The New York State Fair closed early on Sunday night, after they say police received reports of violence in the fairgrounds.

According to the New York State Fair FaceBook page, the fair was closed early 'out of an abundance of caution.'  They say New York State Police received several reports of violence, and the fair is continuing to work with law enforcement and emergency personnel to assess the situation. 

The post did not specify what exactly happened.  The post said, "The safety of fairgoers, staff, and vendors is the highest priority of The Great New York State Fair."

The fair will open Monday at 9 A.M.

Around midnight, the New York State Police posted on Facebook that they received reports of possible gunshots between the midway and concert at Suburban Park at 8:38 p.m.

Shortly after at 8:41 p.m., State Police were once again called for shots fired at the eatery building. 

After responding to both incidents, troopers confirmed there was no credible evidence of gunfire or injuries. 

Both law enforcement and Fair officials determinded to close the Fair early Sunday night for precaution. 

At this time, State Police are investigating what they're calling a false report.
