On Tap: Latitude 42 Taphouse Opening in Horseheads
HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) -- There is some excitement brewing with a new family-owned taphouse officially opening on Sunday, September 1. Latitude 42 is located on Old Ithaca Road, and its name is based on the spot's geographical coordinates.
The taphouse came to fruition rather quickly, and the owners are thrilled to start working with the community.
"We've just been so excited for this place to open, to be a sense of community place of community," says Stacy Richmond, Co-Owner of Latitude 42. "We've had so much support behind us and it's exactly what we wanted and more."
Once guests arrive, they'll get a Latitude 42 card which adds some fun to the experience. When the card is in hand, people 21 and older can head back to explore a variety of beers and wines.
"There's 24 beverages on tap," says Paul Richmond, Co-Owner of Latitude 42. "We're going with 18 beers, six wines. A lot of them are local because the Finger Lakes is such a great area for breweries and wineries. We do have some national stuff. We have two nitro lines for different types of beers, but what we try to do is change it up every time something kicks."
The Richmonds told WENY News, that with a quick tap of the card, a variety of beers and wines unblock and guests will have 10 seconds to pour their drink. After the time is up, the tap a guest chooses will lock back up.
Each pour has a set price which can be seen on the monitor above the taps. For example, when the 10 seconds are up, the screen will present a current grand total for that pour. However, there is a tidbit about pouring, after 36 ounces, guests will need to check in with a staff member.
"It will have you just check in with us and we can come reactivate your car. But it's just making sure that you haven't consumed too much. That would be unhealthy to drive. So it takes one minute to be able to reactivate it," says Stacy.
As far as opening day goes, the taphouse has much in store for people starting at noon.
"We're going to have the putting green outside on the patio and the tables, and lots of donations. The community has been wonderful donating, so we're going to have lots of raffles, anything from greens fees to gift certificates to merch, so we're super excited about this," says Paul.
The taphouse does offer mocktails and non-alcoholic beverages. Latitude 42 offers snacks, but if a person is looking for a full meal, the staff of the taphouse invites everyone to bring or order food.
