Tioga Co. Sheriff confirms murder-suicide after death investigation

TIOGA, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Tioga County Sheriff's Office says two people are dead after a murder-suicide Monday morning in the Town of Tioga. According to law enforcement, 46-year-old Michael Shumway Jr., shot and killed his wife, 44-year-old Janice Shumway, before taking his own life.
The investigation started after the Sheriff's Office was told of the discovery of two bodies at a home on Weiss Rd. Monday morning.
The Sheriff's Office says deputies and members of the Criminal Investigation Division responded to the call and discovered gunshot wounds on the bodies Monday shortly after 9 a.m.
