BARTON, N.Y. (WENY) -- Three motorcyclists were hurt Sunday while driving on Route 17C in Barton. The unusual incident, according to New York State Police, happened after one biker was hit by a powerline after live wires and a portion of a utility pole broke off near the road shortly before 1 p.m.

Police say a live wire fell into the middle of the road which hit a female passenger riding on the back of a motorcycle. The bike overturned. Both the driver and passenger, 62 and 63-years-old respectively, were taken to Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital to be treated for their injuries. The pair is from Athens.

Another motorcycle then veered off the road while trying to avoid the bike that was hit by the powerline. The driver of the motorcycle, a 70-year-old male from Sayre was taken to Robert Packer Hospital. The passenger on that motorcycle, a 79-year-old woman also from Sayre, was uninjured.
