1,200 tons of debris cleaned up after flooding in Tioga County, Pa.
TIOGA COUNTY, PA. (WENY) -- The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency has cleaned up over 1,200 tons of debris and other materials destroyed by flooding since Debby caused severe flooding in the Cowanesque Valley almost two weeks ago.
PEMA says they have removed damaged refrigerators, washers, dryers, furniture, water heaters, lawnmowers, tree limbs, house siding, personal belongings and other items. The debris collected equates to just over 225 dumpster loads.
The material was taken to a landfill in Bradford County.
PEMA says cleaning up debris is one of their objectives while they are deployed to assist in flood recovery updates, in order to help residents recover from the damaged caused by Debby.
PEMA also announced that free dumpster use and curbside pickup to dispose of debris will end soon. The last day for curbside pickup in Westfield will be Monday, Aug. 26. The last day to use the community dumpsters will be on Friday, August 30. The dumpsters are located behind the Knoxville Community Building, the south end of Maple St. and at Potter Brook.
