Court proceedings for Steuben Co. man charged with murdering his sister pushed to Oct.

STEUBEN COUNTY, N.Y. (WENY) -- A 59-year-old man accused of murdering his sister in Erwin back in February appeared in a Steuben County court on Wednesday, August 21st. During the hearing, the judge agreed to push back proceedings for John Marvin II until October.
According to Marvin's public defender, that will allow time for the defense to have further psychological testing done on Marvin. The purpose of the testing will not be to determine his competence according to his public defender.
Instead, testing will be done to determine if Marvin is suffering from any undiagnosed psychological or emotional problems. Before allegedly killing his sister, Marvin had no known criminal record.
Due to the serious nature of the what Marvin is charged with, his public defender said the delay will not create speedy trial implications, and that the judge was reasonable for granting the delay.
