Holy Grounds Coffee Shop: Brewing Dreams and Community Spirit
HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) -- Step into Holy Grounds Coffee Shop, the newest gem in Horseheads that was formerly the old Elmira Savings Bank on Lake Road. This isn't just any ordinary coffee shop, it's a dream come true for owner Tina Smith, who began her journey as a barista.
"It started because I worked for Starbucks and when I left there, I decided I was ready to open up my own coffee shop. We moved back here in 2016 and we've been looking for a building since, and we found this amazing bank that was zoned for a drive-thru," says Smith.
It took time to turn that vision into a reality and it wasn't a smooth ride.
"We started with nothing and while we started with, a passion that God put on my heart, and we just wanted to be able to make that dream come true. But we were like against every roadblock that anybody could have, and it wasn't easy," Smith says.
Holy Grounds's drive-thru setup caters to everyone on the go that is constantly busy.
"48% of the people that get coffee will want to go through a drive-thru for many reasons they have kids, they don't want to take out, they want that speed, they don't want to sit around in a coffee shop, they need to go. So I wanted to be able to offer that," Smith tells WENY News's Max Coven.
The name of the shop, "Holy Grounds" carries a deep personal meaning to Smith.
"I was trying to come up with a name that would just represent what my faith is and where my strength come from because actually going through things like this is very difficult trying to purchase a building, start a business and I just wanted something for people to know that you know, god can do all things and make all things possible. So that's that's where it comes from, and it's a place for people to come and just be a part of something," Smith explains.
Holy Grounds Coffee Shop is built on faith and community. It's where Tina's dreams were brewed and came true. Smith invites everyone to stop by for a coffee, tea, lemonade, scone, and much more.
The shop is located at 2081 Lake Rd, Elmira, NY 14903. They are open seven days a week from 5:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
