WAVERLY, N.Y. (WENY) - Football season is right around the corner. Teams in the Northern Tier have started heat acclimation practices and got together at Shepard Hills Country Club in Waverly for the annual NTL Media Day.

Opening night for the NTL is set for Friday, August 23rd when Sayre travels to defending Large School Champion Troy, North Penn-Mansfield takes on Wyalusing, Canton heads to Northwest Area, Athens travels to South Williamsport, Towanda clashes with Cowanesque Valley, and Wellsboro hosts Montoursville.

Today, the teams talked about the excitement surrounding this time of year.

"This is the most exciting time, early season, you know it's starting to be that payoff period from the summer workouts and then we get into the games, the fall nights under the lights," said Sayre Head Coach, Ricky Lindblad. "There's nothing like Friday nights under the lights, especially for these kids. It's things that they'll remember for the rest of their lives."

"Getting to see all of the guys that came back from last year, seeing new faces, getting to enjoy our summer," said Athens wide receiver and defensive end, Keegan Congdon. "It's the last summer I get to do this so I'm just really excited to be a big part of this amazing program."
