HORSEHEADS , N.Y. (WENY) - The Finger Lakes Falcons put on their annual "Falcons For a Cure" baseball tournament at the Holding Point Recreation Center this weekend.

The tournament raises money for the Finger Lakes Falcons travel teams but also a large portion is donated to the Children's Miracle Network--a non profit organization that raises funds for childrens hospitals all over the United States. The money raised during the tournament goes directly to local Arnot hospitals.

"This is the Falcons For a Cure tournament, this is probably our 7th or 8th year running it", said Finger Lakes Falcons Vice President Zack Brown. "We got 70 teams here, running between probably five different fields, Chapel, Big Flats, Holding Point's kinda the hub, Babe Ruth, Watkins Glen stepped up big time due to the weather."

A survivor of Hodgkin's Lymphoma, Brown believes awareness starts with the youth.

"We just want to give back and we want to help out and where better to start than with young people?" said Brown.

He told WENY the tournament raised over $3,000 for young cancer patients last year.

"Anything we can do to help with, you know, the unfortunate statistics that surround cancer in everybody, including kids I think is a huge thing", said Falcons 9U co-head coach Craig Bianco. "We told them coming in, it's the final day of the season, just leave it on the field, have fun and play for each other."

Other goals of the event are to have a lasting impact on the players, be physical and have fun.

"It's nice to be here at the tournament because there's so many people coming here, and it's great that it's doing really well", said Vincent, pitcher and second baseman for the Falcons 12U team. "I get to play with my friends all the time and it's good to feel good about doing good about what you love and it's fun to do."
