(WENY) -- A woman was arrested by the Elmira Police Department for allegedly resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer on Saturday night.

According to EPD, they responded to a report of a 'suspicious condition' around 1130 p.m. at Saint Patrick's Apartments on Park Place. Police said they were called to the scene because a concerned tenant believed people were using narcotics in a common area hallway, outside of a nearby apartment.

When police arrived to the scene, they found the apartment and started interviewing the resident and guests in the apartment. During the investigation, EPD said they learned the resident, 37-year-old Kasey Magar had an active warrant for petit larceny.

When officers tried to arrest Magar, they said she resisted arrest and fled into her bedroom where she allegedly slammed the door in an officer's face. Then, police said they entered the cluttered room, where an officer slipped on clothing that was on the floor.

After the officer stumbled, authorities said Magar allegedly hit the officer in the face and then placed a lit cigarette on the back of the officer's neck, causing him to sustain a small burn. Magar allegedly continued to resist arrest but eventually was arrested.

She was charged with resisting arrest and second-degree assault.
