SOUTHPORT, N.Y. (WENY) -- It has been five days since the Town of Southport issued a Notice of Violation to the Cherry Lane Mobile Home Park. On Thursday, August 1st, a special town board meeting was held to discuss what comes next for the park.

The board decided to hold a hearing to determine whether the park should keep its operating license. Cherry Lane Park could lose its license to operate as early as the second week of August.

The town board discussed whether the park's owner had remedied the violations, and they concluded the violations remained unaddressed.  As of July 1st, 2024, the park no longer had management, violating the agreement with the town that requires it. Additionally, the park failed to remove three condemned mobile homes by the June 30th deadline and they did not conduct a joint property review in the first quarter of this year.

"The town board gave the park a notice of violation in which they had five days to correct those violations," says Southport Town Supervisor Joe Roman. "As you've heard from the meeting, there's been no correction of those violations. We have not heard from the, from the owners of the park or the management. So therefore the town board voted today to move forward with having a hearing. Per our code, we have to allow the park an opportunity to have a hearing, to come before the town board and explain their situation and their position. So we scheduled that hearing for next Tuesday morning and after that hearing the town board can review its options and take the next steps."

These violations are the latest in a long history of issues at the mobile home park. The hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, August 6th at 8 a.m. at the Southport Town Hall. While the meeting is open to the public, there will be no public comment. Supervisor Roman says he expects a decision the same day if the park's license to operate will be revoked.
