ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Elmira City Council also voted to accept a grant from the Susquehanna River Basin Commission to go towards the Mark Twain Golf Course irrigation system.

The grant is for $300,000.  Previously, the city had allocated American Rescue Plan funds to replace the golf course irrigation system.

"The monies we had set aside through ARP was $2.1 million. We did put that out to bid. The bid came in slightly higher, so our superintendent of our golf course found a grant that was available, and we will be awarded $300,000. So it will assist in bringing us whole on the irrigation system at Mark Twain Golf Course," said City Manager Mike Collins.

The improvement is expected to take place sometime soon.
