Elmira City Officials provide update on Clemens Center Bridge
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- At Monday's Elmira City Council meeting, City Manager Michael Collins addressed the status of the Clemens Center Bridge.
The northbound lane of the bridge has been closed since Thursday, July 11th when a fire broke out under the bridge. Firefighters were able to put out the flames, but the bridge has been partially closed since then while it is being assessed.
"As of right now, our fire department continues to investigate. Our fire marshal is working on the investigation into what caused the fire," said Collins. "That report is not available yet. That investigation is still ongoing. In addition to the damage that's under the bridge, we have the New York State Department of Transportation that came in. They currently have not provided us with a final report, so we don't have an answer on when the bridge will be reopening at this time."
Collins says they do not have a timeline yet for when the Clemens Center Bridge will fully reopen.
