Death Penalty Could Apply in Bradford Co. Murder Case
BRADFORD COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA (WENY) -- The three people charged in connection to the murder of a man in Bradford County in March appeared virtually in court on Monday, July 22nd. The Bradford County District Attorney said that while one of the defendants isn't facing a murder charge, the two who are could get the death penalty.
"For Summer Heil, the charges of hindering the apprehension of the other co-defendants is her main charge. It’s a felony charge that was bound over in her preliminary hearings... Ronda Parker and Terry Parker both were arraigned on criminal homicide and criminal conspiracy charges. The criminal homicide charge essentially could be first/second/third-degree murder, any of those along with the manslaughters. [It's] up to a jury to decide at a later date," said D.A. Richard Wilson.
He added, "...The Commonwealth filed [a] notice of intent to seek the death penalty [for Ronda and Terry] based on aggravating circumstances. Those aggravating circumstances if found by the jury to exist, and *if* either of those two defendants are convicted of first-degree murder, could face the death penalty."
Ronda Parker, her estranged husband Terry Parker, and his girlfriend Summer Heil are all accused of having a role in the murder and dismemberment of Michael Pruitt back in March. Terry Parker is accused of shooting Michael Pruitt to death at Ronda's house on March 8th. According to state police, Terry and Ronda then wrapped up Pruitt's body, put it in the trunk of Terry's car, and drove to Harrisburg where they spent the night. They later returned to Ronda's home on Sawyer Road in the Springfield Township, along with Summer.
Terry and Summer are then accused of removing Pruitt's body from the trunk, dismembering him, and then burning his remains in a burn pit on Ronda's property, where they were later found on March 11th.
According to information from the Affidavit of Probable Cause for Ronda Parker, she was asked by troopers why Terry Parker would want to kill Michael Pruitt. Ronda Parker told police that Terry Parker was concerned the victim had been sexually inappropriate with his daughters, and that Terry Parker was also jealous of the victim's relationship with Ronda.
The Affidavit of Probable Cause also details statements by Summer Heil, who also reportedly told police that it had been discovered that the victim had masturbated in front of Ronda Parker's two children, ages 13 and 4. The documents state Heil told troopers she was worried Terry Parker would kill Pruitt, because Parker was so mad about what he had learned.
That is still under investigation.
Heil is not facing a murder charge because Wilson said, "All of the evidence we have, suggests that she was not part of, not deeply involved in the killing of Michael Pruitt. However, Terry and Ronda would face up to life in prison even if they didn't get the death penalty."
Ronda and Terry will face trial together in a single trial and Heil will have her own. Wilson said he expects this case to go to trial later this year, or sometime in early 2025.
