MONTOUR FALLS, N.Y. (WENY) -- Severe thunderstorms swept across the area Monday evening, causing neighbors in one mobile park to evacuate due to the damage. Trees came crashing down on these mobile homes, causing damage.

''I was informed moments ago that the house is being condemned. We had just bought the place back in November,'' said Bart Curtis, a resident of Rock Cabin Park in Montour Falls.

The damage left at Bart Curtis's place after a tree came crashing down was so severe that authorities deemed it unsuitable for living. Bart and his wife are now seeking shelter at a hotel, while they search for a permanent residence.

''Three months ago, we just put out a brand new steel roof and like I said, I think that saved our lives,'' said Curtis.

Like other areas across the region, residents of Rock Cabin Park were without electricity as of Tuesday afternoon. Members of NYSEG and the Department of Public Works were busy helping clean up and getting the power back online.

''We'll be busy for day. What would happen is people would have to go to work tomorrow morning, we will have the same amount of work we had this morning. It would be people cleaning lawns whenever they can and like I said, come back next week and it will be beautiful again,'' said William Ink, a Department of Public Works worker.

Ink said that damage across the Montour Falls is pretty widespread. He urges everyone to let the cleanup crews do their jobs, and be patient.

''When we have a weather situation like this please stay off the streets because it makes our jobs harder and more dangerous to get stuff cleaned up. A lot of people want to see the damage, but it makes out jobs tougher,'' said Ink.

Wednesday is another day with the potential to see more severe thunderstorms. The First Warning Weather Team will keep you updated on the storms that pose a threat to life and property.
