RICHMOND TOWNSHIP, PA. (WENY) -- Pennsylvania State Police have arrested a Mansfield man on arson related charges after he allegedly set fire to a clothing donation shed behind the Mansfield VFW on June 27.

According to a criminal complaint sent to WENY News, Fred Carew Jr. allegedly set fire to the shed around 4 a.m. last Thursday. The fire had completely consumed the shed and was starting to damage the back of the VFW. After the fire was put out, a Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal believed it was suspicious as the shed did not have electricity or other components that could light on fire on their own.

In the criminal complaint, the Marshal said he observed a man on security cameras matching Carew's description walk behind the donation shed, and not reappear for minutes. As the man walked away, smoke and flickering lights were seen on the footage. Police later found and arrested Carew near Blossburg the same day around 1 p.m.

He is charged with Aggravated Arson, Arson with Intent to Destroy, Arson: Recklessly Endangering Property, Arson: Endangering Property and Criminal Mischief which are all felonies.

Carew is in the Tioga County Prison with no bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 24.
