Bradford Co. Inmate back in Custody after being Mistakenly Released
UPDATE 12:10 PM 07/01/2024: According to the Bradford County District Attorney, Ryan Kithcart is back in custody. Officials have not released more information.
TOWANDA, PA. (WENY) -- A Bradford County Correctional Facility inmate is on the lam, after he was discharged from the hospital, where he was taken without a police escort.
According to the Bradford County District Attorney, Ryan Kithcart, 30, was arrested by Sayre Police after an incident on the morning of June 25, 2024. During his processing at the Bradford County Correctional Facility, officials noticed something strange in his stomach area. They sent him by ambulance to the Towanda Memorial Hospital, but according to court documents, no corrections officer went with him.
Kithcart was released from the hospital Tuesday, but never returned to the Correctional Facility. Law enforcement began searching for Kithcart, using drones and other methods, but were unsuccessful.
The Bradford Co. District Attorney's office is looking into why no law enforcement personnel accompanied him to the hospital.
Kithcart was initially charged with Terroristic Threats, Resisting Arrest and Disorderly Conduct. He now faces additional charges of Escape and Flight to Avoid Apprehension.
According to Pennsylvanian statutes, a person can be charged with escape if they unlawfully remove themselves from detention or does not return to detention following temporary leave.
Law enforcement personnel believe he is homeless.
Anyone who has any information on Kithcart's whereabouts are asked to contact Sayre Police at (570)-888-2233 or call 911. Law enforcement officials are asking people to not make contact with him as he may be a danger to himself or others.
