ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- A medical transport driver from Elmira is accused of sexual misconduct with one of his clients. The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office arrested Lawrence Beach on charges of sexual misconduct for an incident that happened back in May of 2022.

The Sheriff’s Office said Beach was a driver for a medical transport company out of Syracuse. On May 5th, 2022, Beach was a driving a woman to her medical appointment. That is when authorities said, he drove her to a secluded location in the Town of Horseheads and has nonconsensual sexual contact with her.

Undersheriff Douglas Houper said Beach had been familiar with the passenger and drove her to her medical appointments for years. Although all the previous trips had felt safe for the passenger, Undersheriff Houper said this time was different.

Undersheriff Houper said it is always important to know what to do when you are in a dangerous situation with a transport or Uber driver.

“The important thing is....to have a cell phone and call 911 if something doesn’t seem right,” he said. “We would have your location on our screen, and we get help to you as soon as we can.”

The Undersheriff recommends if you are ever getting in the car with a stranger, you should share you location with friends and family members, and let people know where you are at all times.

As for Beach, he was issued an appearance ticket for Horseheads Town Court.
