Letchworth State Park Closed for Police Search in Murder Investigation
3:30PM UPDATE -- Letchworth State Park posted on their Facebook page that the entire park is now reopen to normal operations. No word from the Livingston County Sheriff's Office have found the murder suspect they are looking for.
2:30PM UPDATE -- Letchworth State Park announced the south end of the park, from the Portageville entrance to Castile entrance is now open. The north end of the park is still closed at this time.
LIVINGSTON COUNTY, NY (WENY) -- Letchworth State Park has been closed down, as New York State police assist in a homicide investigation out of Monroe County.
New York State Police tell WENY News the agency is assisting the Irondequoit Police Department with a murder investigation, and are searching for a person of interest at Letchworth State Park.
The Livingston County Sheriff's Office posted on its Facebook page that people should avoid the area of the park, including the hiking trails and camping area.
A post on the Letchworth State Park website says the park is currently closed due to law enforcement activities.
The park spans more tan 14,000 acres across Livingston and Wyoming Counties, including 66 miles of hiking trails and is heavily wooded.
According to 13WHAM in Rochester, a victim was found shot to death inside a home in Irondequoit around 5:45AM Thursday. It's not yet clear if this is the case linked to the search for a person of interest in Letchworth State Park.
