WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (WENY) -Ahead of the NASCAR Cup and Xfinity Series coming to Watkins Glen International in September, a few drivers from each series came to the track for a Goodyear Tire Test.

Cup Series drivers Daniel Suárez, Tyler Reddick and Austin Cindric came to WGI for the tire test. Reddick told us the three drivers all have similar feedback. They're always looking for slower wear and tear as well as tires that can handle higher temperatures.

Reddick also expressed WGI isn't his strongest race and that he "survives" the road course.

"Typically this team, myself included love going to road courses", said Reddick. "It is tough when you have a road course on your schedule that's in the playoffs like Watkins Glen and it turns out that it's not one of your best road courses. We've just been trying to work on that today and obviously tomorrow we'll have more time on track."

The Cup Series Go Bowling at the Glen is now a playoff race and the Xfinity Series Mission 200 at the Glen will be the penultimate race of their regular season.

Suárez talked about getting the opportunity to drive on the track ahead of the race.

"Every time that we get an opportunity to do a tire test for Goodyear it's a great opportunity to run extra laps", said Suárez. "We are on the run every weekend, and that's amazing but in the week, we do a lot of simulator and simulation and things like that. To get some extra laps in a race track that when we come back it's gonna be the playoffs, it's extremely important."

Cindric explained why the tire tests are so important.

"What makes Watkins Glen unique compared to most of the road courses we run on is just the average speed, it's quite a bit higher. You're kinda working the tire through a lot more load on average than most styles of track like this", said Cindric. "I think it's really cool because this place always shows up whether it's in the camp grounds and sell outs in the crowd. It's obviously been on the schedule for a really long time so it's cool that this track kind of earns that playoff spot."
