ITHACA, N.Y. (WENY) -- A person died after police said they hit a tree on their electric bicycle Monday morning.

According to the Ithaca Police Department, officers were called out to the 600 block of Hudson Street for a report of someone laying on the ground. When officers arrived, they found a person who lost control of their electric bicycle. Officers started basic trauma care to the person until ambulance personnel arrived.

The bicyclist was taken to Cayuga Medical Center to be stabilized before being transported to a regional trauma center. Ithaca Police said the bicyclist died of their injuries at CMC before being transported to the trauma center. The name of the bicyclist is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.

Ithaca P.D. said based on information that was gathered and evidence recovered at the scene, a preliminary investigation revealed that there were no other people or vehicles involved in this crash. IPD is asking any witnesses to this crash to contact them.
