Victim Identified in Fatal Shooting in Elmira
UPDATED 3:45 P.M. (6/21): Elmira police identified the victim in Thursday's shooting as Zachary T. VanHorn, age 21.
Elmira police are being assisted in the investigation by the Chemung County Sheriff's Office, West Elmira Police Department and New York State Police. Elmira police say no further information will be released at this time.
UPDATE 9:15 P.M. (6/20): According to Elmira Police, the gunshot victim that they found in area of the 400 block of Grove St. has died. In a press release sent to WENY News, they say the victim was a man. He was taken from the scene to a local hospital via ambulance where he was pronounced dead.
Police have not yet identified the victim.
When WENY News arrived on scene, there was crime scene tape surrounding a home on the street, with police going in and out of the home they had cordoned off. The street in front of the home was blocked off while police were in the area.
E.P.D. says their investigation into the incident is ongoing and no more information will be provided at this time.
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Elmira Police say one person is in the hospital after being found with gunshot wounds inside a home on the 400 block of Grove St. in the city Thursday evening.
According to an officer WENY News spoke to on scene, they do not know the condition of the victim at this time. The same officer said they were investigating the incident as a disturbance.
No word yet on a potential suspect or suspects.
