STEUBEN COUNTY, N.Y. (WENY) -- Steuben County is getting $16.5 million in New York State assistance to improve wastewater treatment and other water infrastructure. The financing was approved by the Environmental Facilities Corporation Board of Directors, which New York announced Thursday. Here's where the money is going:

The Village of Canisteo is getting $5.4 million to make improvements to their wastewater treatment plant to help improve water quality in the Canisteo River. The Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF) is giving the village over $4 million in financing to pay for the project. Canisteo is getting the rest of the money from the Water Infrastructure Improvement (WIIA) grant.

The Village of Painted Post is getting $2.1 million to also make improvements to their wastewater treatment plant to protect the water quality of the Chemung River. Painted Post has received almost $1.9 million in financing from the CWSRF program. The village has also received over $200,000 in grant money from the WIIA program.

The Village of Bath is getting $9 million to install 18,000 feet of water piping and other needed equipment along State Route 415 and SR 54. New York says the improvements will let the village provide an adequate supply of water to residents and improve their infrastructure resilience and security. The village is getting $6 million in financing from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund, and $3 million from a WIIA grant.

"New York State is providing major financial assistance to ensure our communities can invest in their water infrastructure to protect our vital natural resources, while reducing costs and making these projects affordable," said Gov. Kathy Hochul, a Democrat.

The money is part of a $300 million investment by New York for projects statewide. The funding comes from the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, State Revolving Funds and other grants.
