Rep. Nick Langworthy Advocates for Alzheimer's Awareness Month and Legislative Action
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- In a press conference this afternoon, Congressman Nick Langworthy emphasized the importance of Alzheimer's Awareness Month. He focused on key legislative efforts that Langworthy said aim to find a cure for the disease.
"The Alzheimer's Association provides to help them, to give them someone to talk to, to let them know what programs exist in, in to show them you know that, they show them that they can manage and make it through this, in giving them the support network at a very stressful time for family members," says Rep. Langworthy, Republican Congressman for the 23rd District of New York.
Langworthy spotlighted the BOLD Infrastructure for Alzheimer's Re-authorization act of 2024, which is designed to advance research, secure funding, and strengthen public health infrastructure for dementia care. The congressman noted that nearly seven million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer's diseases.
That means one in nine people are impacted. In a statement to the press, he shared that number is projected by 2050 to increase to 13 million people. That's why Langworthy said he wants to see more action from Congress.
Langworthy said that he doesn't just want to raise awareness, he wants a renewed commitment to finding a cure. Additionally, he wants to see more support for people suffering from the disease, including their families and dedicated caregivers.
