HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) -- New York State lawmakers honored a local robotics team that made it to the worlds competition earlier this year.

State Senator Tom O'Mara and Assemblymen Phil Palmesano and Chris Friend presented a proclamation to Team TARDIS 536. The robotics club placed 16th out of 224 teams across the globe that competed in the FIRST World Festival.

"Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, these students now stand honorably, with just pride in their accomplishments and in eager anticipation of future challenges and understanding and appreciating the caring counsel and support provided by teachers, mentors, and parents," part of the resolution reads.

To qualify for worlds, the team won the New York Excelsior Region Championship that was held in March.

"It has been a true testament to the excellence and hard work of these stellar students and their coaches and mentors, as well as to the incredible support from their families," O'Mara said.

The robotics team is made up of 14 Horseheads and Corning-Painted Post High School Students.

"From the start, they set a goal qualifying for the championship in Texas, and they reached it — and then some! They built an incredible robot that competed with the very best our Excelsior region has to offer, and won the top prize," said Mike Simons, assistant coach, Team TARDIS.

TARDIS finished this robotics competition season ranked 49th out of over 7,400 teams around the world.
