Edison's Payton Littlefield signs Letter of Intent to play Division III basketball
ELMIRA HEIGHTS (WENY) - Monday afternoon Thomas A. Edison's Payton Littlefield signed her Letter of Intent to play Division III basketball for Nazareth University.
Littlefield became Edison's all-time leading scorer this past season, finishing her high school basketball career with 1,726 points. This is also second in Chemung County history. She is also the all-time three-point leader at Edison, ending her senior year with 90 three's and 279 career three's which is the 4th all-time in New York State girls basketball history. Littlefield made 28 consecutive free throws which is 3rd all-time in the state for girls basketball. Littlefield was also named First Team All-IAC all four years of high school. She averaged 24.9 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Littlefield most recently was honored by the Kiwanis club with the Bee Stephens Co-Female Athlete of the Year Award.
Littlefield also excels in the classroom and will be graduating as the salutatorian in the Class of 2024.
Payton values helping her community. This past winter, Littlefield and Elmira's Ellie Clearwater hosted a "Hooping for Hope" basketball game which benefited the Josh Palmer Fund. The game raised $12,875.
Littlefield attests to the Edison basketball team for setting her up so well and is hopeful to continue her athletic success into college.
"I'm just so grateful that everyone took time out of their busy June to come here and celebrate with me today", said Littlefield. "I couldn't be more excited to go to Naz. It was a long recruiting process but I kinda always knew from the start that I wanted to go there. They have the perfect major for me, I'm majoring in speech therapy. My coaches and my teammates have been the foundation for me here and without them, none of this would've been possible. I'm just really hoping to make the same kind of connection with my future teammates and coaches and that'll lead me to a successful four years for my college career."
WENY Sports wishes Payton good luck as she takes her athletic talents to the collegiate level!
