Wisner Market shakes off the rain in seasonal return
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Despite the rain earlier today, Wisner Park played host to one of Elmira's summer staples, the Wisner Market.
It wasn't a very summer-like day out but it didn't stop folks from going out to Wisner Park for the first market. Plenty of local businesses and local organizations got to take part despite the conditions.
It's a summer favorite for many, but the weather didn't seem to get the memo. Steady rain and a few downpours tried to spoil the party at the season's first Wisner Market, but many stuck around to browse all of the local organizations and eats, enjoy some live music and meet a few furry friends.
"As long as you feed them and give them treats, they'll deal with any weather that comes their way. But it's been a pleasure to see so many people come to visit and lend a helping hand. We always love seeing kids come and meet the animals and just have a good time," remarked Mark Longo of Peanuts Freedom Farm Animal Sanctuary in Pine City.
For the start of Wisner Market's 27th season, farm fresh produce, fruits and vegetables, and a wide range of baked goods were on display along with flowers and crafts. Several food trucks from around the area lined main street with several lunch options available for parkgoers along with some local favorites.
"This truck was, originally a Popcorn and Peanuts, truck from 1929. It was built here in Elmira, New York, and that's what it sold. It also sold sodas but, that's a little bit too much for us to do," said Bob Spallone of The Popcorn Truck.
Though the festivities were slightly dampened this time around, there will be plenty of opportunities for locals and passersby to get their Wisner Market fix. Wisner Market takes place is Wisner Park in Downtown Elmira every Thursday from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. from now until September 26th.
