Paws for Laws raises money for NYSP K-9 Units

HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) -- The annual Paws for Laws fundraiser took place at the Horseheads Elk's Club Saturday afternoon, raising money for the New York State Police K-9 unit.
There were raffles, live auctions, a chicken barbecue, and K-9 demonstrations. Tickets were $15 each, or $10 with the donation of a bag of dog or cat food. Dozens and dozens of people showed up in support of the event, and local businesses participated as well.
The proceeds from Paws for Laws goes directly towards the New York State Police K-9 Unit at Troop E in Horseheads.
"The fund can go towards is the purchase of actual police canines, bulletproof vests, training aids, leashes, that sort of thing...we see everyone out here today supporting law enforcement and the K-9 unit, so I think it's great that our community partners and businesses and everyone's come out to support us," said Trooper Brandon Salyerds, from NYSP Troop E.
In previous years, Paws for Laws has raised thousands of dollars in support of K-9 units with the New York State Police.
