Pastor in Steuben County sentenced on incest charge
STEUBEN CO, N.Y. (WENY) -- Pastor Nathan Cooper of Steuben County was sentenced on Wednesday, May 16th for incest after being convicted back in February. After a bench trial in Schuyler County, Cooper was sentenced to six months in jail and 10 years of probation.
Additionally, a 10-year order of protection was issued for the unnamed victim.
According to the Schuyler County District Attorney, the public defender in the case quoted scripture and religious precedent in an attempt to persuade the court to impose a shorter sentence. According to the D.A.'s office, the judge in the case rejected the argument.
Cooper was taken into custody immediately after being sentenced and will serve time in the Schuyler County Jail. He was also deemed a sex offender for Sex Offender Registration purposes.
