Gov. Hochul's office unveils new gun violence data
ALBANY, NY (WENY)--Thursday, GOVERNOR KATHY HOCHUL'S OFFICE ANNOUNCED NEW GUN VIOLENCE DATA SHOWING A DECREASE IN INCIDENTS.
THE RECENT DATA COLLECTED FROM POLICE DEPARTMENTS ACROSS THE STATE SHOWS A 24 PERCENT DECREASE IN SHOOTING INCIDENTS INVOLVING INJURIES, COMPARED TO LAST YEAR.

LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS SAID GETTING ILLEGAL GUNS OFF THE STREET IS A BIG PART OF REDUCING GUN VIOLENCE.
"We're doing an outstanding job in that regard. We've already seized eight-hundred and two crime guns for the current year, and we are on pace for the third year in a row to seize more guns than in previous years," said Steven James, New York State Police Superintendent.
JAMES ADDed SINCE 2022, THEY HAVE SEIZED MORE THAN THREE THOUSAND GUNS. HE SAid THIS IS MORE THAN THE TOTAL NUMBER OF GUNS SEIZED FROM THE PREVIOUS FIVE YEARS COMBINED.
