CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) - The Bluebird Trail Farm in Corning held an Earth Day event on Saturday, April 20th. Designated sections of the farm held different activities for guests to work on while they learned more about the environment from educators on the grounds.

"We just wanted to provide our community with an opportunity to see just small ways that we can each have a positive impact on our environment," said Marjorie Seiderman, Co-Owner of Bluebird Trail Farm. "Even on our porch, in our backyard."

Animals roamed the paths of the farm as families moved from one station to the next. People got to create and take home some birdhouses, wildflower seed balls, and other environmentally friendly crafts. However, most of the kids were drawn to one event in particular at the pond.

"What we did today- we were scooping up fishies and putting them back in the water, then we picked up the thing that they're in and we put them in there," said Kira, a five-year-old girl there with her family who are frequent visitors of the farm.

The Kellogg family is part of the farm's Community Supported Agriculture Program. They feel that the farm is able to offer programming like this all year round and not just for Earth Day.

"It's so fresh and clean and we love the animals," said Lessa Kellogg. "It's not like anything else. You know, we live kind of in the woods but you still can't get this kind of atmosphere, this kind of environment."

The educators and farmers on the grounds are used to performing these activities but, since Earth Day is approaching, they feel it is important to show others what they can do too.

"Well, we all have a role in protecting and sustaining our earth and helping our environment," Seiderman said. "So, Earth Day was an opportunity for us to use the resources of the farm and bring it together with our community and just provide opportunities. A lot of times, people don't know exactly what they can do. So we wanted to use our farm as a teaching place for people to learn how they can help the environment."

The Bluebird Trail Farm has a lineup of more educational events coming in the summer. Their next event is Moms and Marigolds which will be held May 11th from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
