NORTHERN TIER, PA (WENY) -- April is National Child Abuse Prevention month.  To raise awareness,m a local non-profit is partnering with restaurants for 'Cooking for Kids' dine-and-donate fundraisers.

"The overwhelming support that we receive from our local community is nothing short of inspiring," said Brittney Mink-Eiklor, the executive director of The Children's House Child Advocacy Center (CHCAC).

Ten restaurants across Bradford County are donating a portion of their sales to CHCAC.  CHCAC is a non-profit that works towards making sure victims of child abuse everything they need to heal after hardship.  CHCAC says they are a safe place for children and families to come when there are concerns about child abuse or neglect.

"All of the proceeds for our Cooking for Kids initiatives go to helping child abuse prevention efforts here in Bradford and Sullivan counties, but also providing critical services to child abuse victims in our local community," said Mink-Eiklor.

Tanner's Bar and Grill in Athens was the first 'Cooking for Kids' spot of the month.   They donated 20% of their food sales to CHCAC.

"I'm glad we got in there and were able to get it rolling. Hopefully there's a really good turnout for the entire event, stretched out for as long as it goes. Hopefully everyone has success at it, and we can raise some money for a good cause," said Ryan Wood, the owner of Tanner's.

Being a non-profit, CHCAH says it relies on state and federal grants and donations.  Mink-Eiklor says fundraising like this can make all the difference when it comes to helping children.

"We rely on federal and state competitive grants. Investing in local stakeholder groups and then relying on our fundraising is really important, and that's why funding is so critical. The Children's House has faced some recent budget cuts, and so having support of the community in our Cooking for Kids and our Gratitude Gala and our golf tournament really means the world of difference," said Mink-Eiklor.
