MANSFIELD, PENNSYLVANIA (WENY) -- The Commonwealth University-Mansfield Festival Chorus will perform Requiem by John Rutter and Creation (A Rock Cantata) by David Bobrowitz and Steven Porter on Sunday, April 14.

Carson Witherite, senior and section leader with concert choir, says Requiem is a mass for the dead that celebrates life.

“[It] can seem a little somber and serious, but you know, it also reminds us to celebrate a life well lived as well. So, I think it's kind of respecting and celebrating life as well. And the other portion of the concert will feature the creation, which is actually telling the story of the creation of the world in a rock and roll style.”

The musical performance, that has parts of the Latin Requiem, is being direct by Dr. Peggy Dettwiler. Witherite says the show overall explores themes anyone can follow.

“This is kind of universal themes that anyone of various backgrounds can kind of understand and appreciate. You know, we all experienced death and, you know, we all have various thoughts about creation and the celebration of the beauty of the world.”

Witherite who is graduating this spring, says this will be one of his last shows at the university, and is looking forward to finishing off his career with this show.

The program will be taking place this Sunday, April 14 at 2:30 p.m. at the Steadman theatre on the Mansfield University campus. The performance is free for the public and all ages are welcomed to attend.
