Eclipse tourism heating up in Chemung County
CHEMUNG COUNTY, N.Y. (WENY) -- After a slow start for bookings, business is booming for hotels leading up to the Eclipse on April 8th in Chemung County. That's according to officials with the Chemung County Chamber of Commerce.
"Things have really turned around now for all the hotels in Chemung County," said Cynthia Raj of the Chemung County Chamber of Commerce.
Along with hotels making out, Raj said that restaurants are starting to get in on the eclipse themes. Right now it is restaurant week in Chemung County, and the theme is the eclipse.
"We're funding out that we have a lot of eclipse themed events creating different kinds of ways to have fun celebrating the eclipse," said Raj.
Raj said the two main drivers of eclipse tourism are people coming in from out of town to view the 98 percent totality, and local residents looking for a way to celebrate the once in a lifetime astronomical event.
