ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- A local business is stepping up to show their support after a Chemung County Sheriff's Investigator was critically injured Friday night.

On Friday, March 29th, Investigator Michael Theetge was seriously hurt in a hit-and-run. According to Chemung County Sheriff Bill Schrom, the investigator was hit by a suspect while investigating a retail theft near the Target on County Route 64. Investigator Theetge is currently in critical condition at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.

JaMS Fitness Club in Elmira hosts open skate time.  On Saturday, March 30th, the owners say they have decided to donate half of every ticket sold directly to the Theetge family. Jason Smith, the owner of JaMS Fitness Club, says his family has personal ties to both the Theetge family and law enforcement, and wants to do anything they can to show their support during a difficult time.

"We want to support our blue families, and fellow police officers, friends, and anyone that does the job out there and takes that risk everyday.  I would always want someone to be there for us if we needed it, and we want to be out there showing support for people out there helping the community," said Smith.

Adult skate is happening from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. Saturday night.  JaMS is also collecting donations for the Theetge Family without skating, which can be dropped off at the rink.

JaMS Fitness Club, the site of the old Joycrest skating rink, is located at 1570 Lake St, Elmira, NY 14901.
