Dick's Sporting Goods donates sports gear to Chemung County Sheriff's Office
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Monday morning, Dick’s Sporting Goods donated three bags of sports gear to the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff William Schrom said these donated items will be handed out by road patrol workers to kids in the community they come across during their shifts. They might also be given to kids at the New York State Sheriff’s Summer Camp, just like last year.
“...because not only do the kids in our community benefit from that ... but kids all over New York State,” he said. “It’s a great opportunity because everything they get up there is either donations or something that they raised through funds.”
Sheriff Schrom said handing out sports gear to kids is an opportunity to form a positive relationship with police. These acts of kindness also give law enforcement a chance to interact with kids in the community.
