The Horseheads Village Board unanimously votes the Signs Law into effect
HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) --The Horseheads Village Board spent Thursday, March 14th jumping between budget meetings and a village board meeting to work out important factors in the community. At the 6 pm meeting, the Village Board unanimously voted into effect the "Signs Law" which will promote and protect advertising in the four square miles of the village.
"Temporary Signs are in there and that includes political Signs," says Horseheads Mayor Kevin Adams. "This Signs law is going to keep that same amount of 30 days, uh, they can put up once on the 31st day. The Signs {have}to be removed. "
The Signs Law has been around for several years and Mayor Kevin Adams shared it needed some tweaking. This law is in effect for every person in the village who displays a Sign on their property; it doesn't matter if it's political or purely advertising.
Another factor included in the Signs Law discusses murals. Murals across the Village of Horseheads on businesses.
"It's just to bring some basic procedure if you want to put in a mural. It is an informal process right now, we had originally had a wonderful, we have a wonderful mural committee, and this was to give credence to all the work they have done, as far as applying for it, as far as us being able to view it and properly give a government sanction on beautiful work that the government has done," says Mayor Adams.
The Signs Law is taking effect immediately on Wednesday, March 14th, 2024.
Also at the meeting on Thursday was a change in trustees. After eleven years Trustee Mike Skroskznik has reSignsed from the village board and his predecessor is Village of Horseheads resident George Koliwasky. Mr. Koliwasky is running for the seat in the November election and will fill the vacant seat until the November 2024 election.
