Horseheads Historical Society hosts Q&A social hour about local history
HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) -- People stopped into the Horseheads Historical Society Saturday afternoon to learn more about the area that surrounds them and ask questions about what makes Horseheads unique.
This program was a combined effort between the Horseheads Historical Society and the Chemung County Office of the Aging. The goal was to get people social in the community all while having a Q&A session with a local historian. All questions were up for discussion, and organizers say this is a valuable learning and social tool.
"We partnered with the Office of the Aging, and we've been trying to do a lot of smart mall events with them to meet the needs of a lot of the seniors that are alone on a regular basis," said Barbara Tighe-Skorczewskiwe, the president of the Horseheads Historical Society. "We zeroed in on local trivia. So that's what's happening, and Joan, our historian emeritus, who is 94 years old, and has all of that knowledge banked in her brain, is sharing a lot of it with those people. So we have a small group, but I think a core group of what will come in the future, now that people know that we're doing this."
The Historical Society hopes to make this a regular event with the next one happening on March 23rd. Anyone interested is invited to go and learn more about the history of the area.
