Hornell man charged with manslaughter for Avoca crash

STEUBEN COUNTY, N.Y. (WENY) -- A 26-year old man from Hornell has been charged with manslaughter and more for his alleged role in a car crash in Avoca back in August that left one person dead. Michael Eldridge has been charged with Manslaughter, Assault, two counts of Reckless Endangerment, two counts Assault and Vehicular Manslaughter.
According to police, 51-year-old Michael Hinrich of Nunda, N.Y. died as a result of injuries sustained during the crash. Police say Hinrich, who was driving a Chevy Camaro, approached a stop sign at the intersection of State Route 415 and attempted to turn southbound. That's when Police say a 2018 Buick, driven by Eldridge struck the driver's side door of Hinrich's Chevrolet Camaro.

Along with Hinrich, a 26 year-old man from Wellsville, N.Y, who was a passenger in the Buick allegedly driven by Eldridge, was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital with what were termed non-life-threatening injuries. A female passenger in the Chevrolet Camaro driven by Hinrich was also flown to Strong Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Eldridge was brought to Noyes Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Eldridge is currently being held in the Steuben County Jail.
