Elmira Police Identify Deceased Woman Found Near Railroad

ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- Elmira police are investigating the death of a woman who was found near the railroad tracks on the city's south side Monday morning.
Elmira police, fire and emergency responders were called to the Norfolk Southern railway between East Hudson Street and Pennsylvania avenue for a report of an unresponsive person just after 10:30 Monday morning.
Police say a deceased 47-year-old woman was found on the gravel shoulder of the train tracks. Her identity is not being released at this time, pending notification of the next of kin.
Elmira Police say they are working with Norfolk Southern police in the investigation. Anyone who might have information about the incident is asked to call the Elmira Police Department at 607-737-5626 or the anonymous tipline, 607-271-HALT.
