Elmira College men's hockey set to face top-ranked Hobart College
PINE VALLEY, N.Y. (WENY) - Elmira College men's hockey is gearing up to take on Hobart College for a home and home series.
The EC men are currently ranked third in the latest USCHO Division III rankings, while the Statesmen are sitting in the first spot.
The Soaring Eagles are coming off a 4-1 win over Babson College last Saturday, now having a 15-3-1 overall record.
Ahead of Friday and Saturday's games, WENY Sports caught up with the team. They talked about what it will take to beat the top team in the country.
"I think it's gonna be a really fun weekend, obviously we've been rivals with Hobart for a long time so it's gonna be fun just to experience that with how highly ranked we are both right now", said Elmira native, Daniel Dimon. "Honestly, if we just play our game and play the way that we know we're capable of and stick to the stuff that made us successful to this point in the season, I think we'll be alright this weekend."
Senior forward, Janis Vizbelis said, "Good hockey as always, I mean, they're a tough team to play, they're very structured I feel like, very skilled, fast paced so it's gonna be a good game. Just our hockey I guess, kinda sticking to our game plan and sticking to the system that works for us, playing our way. I feel like we're a hard working team so I think it should be good."
Just matching their effort, I think", assistant coach, Mike Grace said. "You know, guy for guy, we're pretty similar skill wise and all of that stuff but, you know, it's gonna take a relentless effort, guys committing to our systems and all that fun stuff. We'll be alright."
The two teams will go head to head in Pine Valley tomorrow at 7 pm. On Saturday, the Soaring Eagles will be traveling to Geneva to take on the Statesmen again at 4 pm.
